Ana Tereza Basilio

Ana Tereza Basilio holds a Law degree from Universidade Cândido Mendes do Rio de Janeiro (UCAM), earned in December 1989, and completed postgraduate studies in North American Law at the University of Wisconsin. She was a partner at Sergio Bermudes Law Firm from 1990 to 1998, an international partner at Baker & McKenzie, responsible for civil and commercial litigation in Brazil from July 2002 to December 2005, a partner at Andrade e Fichtner Law Firm in the areas of civil and commercial litigation and arbitration from January 2006 to December 2008, and founded Basilio Advogados in January 2009.

The lawyer has been a member of the Arbitration Panel of the Mediation and Arbitration Center of FIRJAN, FENASEG, and the Commercial Association of the State of Rio de Janeiro since 2003; a member of the Permanent Business Law Forum at the School of Magistracy of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ) since 2009; a member of the Administrative Law Commission of the Brazilian Lawyers Institute since 2015; a member of the Advisory Board of the Brazilian Chamber of Mediation and Arbitration (FIRJAN/ACRJ/FENASEG) since 2015; a member of the Editorial Board of the CNseg Insurance Legal Journal since 2015; Vice President of the Telecommunications Law Commission of the Brazilian Chamber of Mediation and Arbitration (FIRJAN/ACRJ/FENASEG) since 2015; a member of the Advisory Board of the Justice and Citizenship Journal since 2018; and was elected Secretary Director of the Brazilian Lawyers Institute in April 2018 for the 2018-2019 term.
She served as Justice of the Regional Electoral Court of the State of Rio de Janeiro from December 2010 to July 2015 and Director of the Judicial Electoral School of Rio de Janeiro (EJE-RJ) from March 2011 to December 2013. Additionally, she was a professor of Civil Law at the Postgraduate Program of the Higher School of Law from 1993 to 2001, a member of the Organizing Committee of the Fifth Federal Justice Examination at the Regional Federal Appellate Court of the 2nd Region by indication of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil) (2004/2005), a member of the Examination Panel of the Sixth Federal Justice Examination at the same court by indication of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil) (2005/2006), and a guest professor at the Postgraduate Program in Electoral Law and Arbitration at Fundação Getulio Vargas/RJ since 2004.

In February 2015, she delivered lectures on the “Reform of the Civil Procedure Code and the Justice of the Future” at EMERJ. In May 2015, she participated in the Seminar “Political Reform IAB – Campaign Financing and District Voting” featuring Dr. Nelson Jobim, Dr. Sergio Abrantes, and Dr. Bernardo Cabral; she was a moderator at the event “The New CPC and Its Effects on Arbitration Procedures” at CBMA, featuring Dr. Ivan Nunes Ferreira and Dr. Joaquim de Paiva Muniz. In 2014, she was awarded the Judicial Merit Medal by the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice; in 2015, she received the Merit Medal from the Regional Federal Appellate Court of Rio de Janeiro. In September 2019, she was honored with the Tiradentes Medal by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ), and in the same year, she received the Merit Medal from the School of Magistracy of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ). In August 2022, she was awarded the Pedro Ernesto Merit Medal by the Rio de Janeiro City Council. In May 2023, she received the Visconde de Itaboraí Medal from the Itaboraí City Council. In November 2023, she received honorary status as a Peacekeeper with the OCB Peacekeepers Medal of Honor. In March 2024, she was granted the Title of Citizen of Niterói by the Niterói City Council, and in the following month, she was awarded the Yaci Rodrigues Mello Merit Medal in a ceremony at the Brazilian Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil), Rio Bonito. Also in April 2024, she received an Honorable Mention from the Brazilian Institute for Legal Research and Education (IBRAPEJ). In June 2024, she was granted the Honorary Title of Citizen of Magé by the Magé City Council. In July 2024, she was awarded the Technological Merit Medal by the Center for Information and Communication Technology of the State of Rio de Janeiro (PRODERJ), and in the same month, she received the Title of Citizen of São Gonçalo by the São Gonçalo City Council. Also in July 2024, she was awarded the Technological Merit Medal by the State Secretariat for Digital Transformation – Center for Information and Communication Technology of the State of Rio de Janeiro (PRODERJ). In August 2024, she was appointed Ambassador for Municipal Public Advocacy by the Federation of Municipal Prosecutors of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FEPROMERJ). Later that month, she received the José Clemente Pereira Municipal Legislative Merit Medal by the Niterói City Council, and in November 2024, she was awarded the IFEC Citizenship Medal by the Inter-American Institute for Education, Culture, and Science Development. In January 2025, she received the Women’s Merit Commendation from the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History, and Literature (ABRASCI). In March 2025, she was honored with the Chiquinha Gonzaga Medal and the Title of Distinguished Citizen of the City of Rio de Janeiro, both granted by the Rio de Janeiro City Council. Finally, in April 2025, she was awarded the Academic Merit Medal “Judge Antonio Ruilli Junior” for her contribution to strengthening Judicial and Magistrate Schools during the COPEDEM event held in Rio de Janeiro.
