João Augusto Basilio
Mr. Basilio graduated as a Bachelor of law through the Universidade Cândido Mendes and worked as a lawyer for the Grupo Peixoto de Castro from 1987 to 1997, a partner of Lobo & Ibeas Advogados from 1997 to 2003, and of Andrade & Fichtner Advogados from July 2003 to December 2008. In January 2009, he founded Basilio Law Firm.
He has a Master’s degree in Civil Law from the Universidade do Estado de São Paulo (UNIFESP), and he is a professor in Civil Law at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica – PUC Rio (approved through competitive examination); a Professor-Lecturer at the Escola da Magistratura (Judge’s School) of the State of Rio de Janeiro (EMERJ), of the MBA in Economic and Corporate Law and of the LLM in Real Estate Law of Fundação Getúlio Vargas; a professor of the graduate’s program in Corporate Law of the Corporate Studies Center of Faculdades Cândido Mendes; a Civil Law professor at CEPAD – Studies, Research and Law Update Center; an assistant professor of Prof. Sylvio Capanema de Souza at the Faculdades Integradas Cândido Mendes; a Civil Law Professor of the 1st Preparatory Course for the Bar Exam organized by the Brazilian Bar Association, OAB/RJ.
He wrote several articles and the book “Shopping Centers” [“Shopping Malls”], published by Renovar in 2004. He also is an effective member of the Institute of Brazilian Lawyers and the Brazilian Bar Association in the chapters of the States of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília. He was the vice-president of ABAMI – the Brazilian Association of Real Estate Market Lawyers from 1993 – 1995; a Member of the Resolutions Committee of the ABAMI from 1995-1997; Director of the Regional Branch for Rio de Janeiro of the CESA -Study Center of Law Partnerships in 2002/2003; a Coordinator and Professor of Civil Law at the Escola Superior de Advocacia of the Brazilian Bar Association. He was also part of the Legislative Committee of the ABADI -in charge of drafting the Bill of Law on “Real Estate Leasing”, which was submitted to the National Congress. He was also a Member of the Examination Board on Commercial Law for the XIX and XX Competitive Examinations for the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
